Professor Dato’ Dr. Morshidi Sirat

Morshidi is professor of urban geography at the School of Humanities, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang.  He has served as Director, National Higher Education Research Institute (IPPTN), as Deputy Director-General, Department of Higher Education (Public Sector), and as Director-General of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia. Morshidi publishes widely on higher education policy in the ASEAN region and is very active in research and consultancy work for IIEP Paris, the ADB, the World Bank, and UNESCO APEID Bangkok. Morshidi (with Norzaini Azman and Aishah Abu Bakar) recently wrote a chapter on ASEAN and higher education in Robertson, S. Olds, K. and Dang, Q. A. (forthcoming), Global Regionalisms and Higher Education. E. Elgar, Cheltenham.   Morshidi is now working on issues relating to regionalist approach to higher education in Malaysia, with specific focus on university leadership. At the Commonwealth level, Morshidi and colleagues are working on Doctoral Education in Commonwealth Africa Project, and Funding for Higher Education in Commonwealth South Pacific Project. At the recent Education Ministers Action Group Meeting (EMAG), Malaysia was given the responsibility to prepare reports on Quality in Education.  CTEF is playing an important role in preparing these reports.  In this respect, as a geographer, it is important to take stock and assess the contribution of Geography to Quality in Education.

Morshidi is actively engaged as member of the editorial boards of higher education journals such as "Higher Education  - The International Journal of Higher Education Research", "Studies in Higher Education" Journal, "Higher Education Policy", "Asian Education and Development Studies" Journal.
